Twin to Twin Transfusion Syndrome
Twin-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS) is a serious complication in 6-18% of monochorionic multiple pregnancies (including twins and triplets). Due to the complexity and uniqueness of each case TTTS is one of the most challenging prenatal conditions for the practitioner and family alike. In the last decade our understanding of the clinical presentation and the scope of management options have expanded dramatically. Today, comprehensive ultrasound assessment of monochorionic twin gestations provides the opportunity for early prenatal detection and accurate prognostic assessment of this potentially treatable condition. A detailed examination of the placenta, both babies, their amniotic fluid and the function of the cardiovascular systems provides critical information necessary to make individual choices appropriate to your family.
