University of Maryland Hospital

The University of Maryland Hospital was built in 1820 by the faculty at the University of Maryland Medical School to teach medical students clinical medicine. This was the first hospital in the U.S. specifically built for this purpose. The University of Maryland Hospital is the primary teaching hospital for the School of Medicine. The University of Maryland provides residents with training in the clinical practice of obstetrics and gynecology; subspecialty practice within OB/GYN; basic science and clinical research; exposure to an academic faculty; and experience in a tertiary medical center which serves as a primary referral center for the state of Maryland.
