Evaluation Process
Fellows will be evaluated both on an informal and formal basis. Because the Department confines its in-patient activities to a single location, the fellow has daily contact with Maternal-Fetal Medicine faculty. These informal contacts are perhaps most important to the clinical growth and development of the Fellow as problems are identified early and discussed in non-intimidating circumstances.
The Fellowship schedule is based on 4 month or trimester blocks. At the end of each trimester the MFM staff each Fellow. The same form is given to supervisor of any elective rotation as well. In addition, the Fellow meets with the Director of the Fellowship every trimester to assess their progress both academically and toward completion of the research goals . Plans are formulated to correct any deficiencies identified at that time. Finally, the Fellow meets annually with the Chair of the Department for a broader discussion of their career development.
The Fellows are afforded the opportunity to anonymously evaluate faculty members on an annual basis using the attached form. The Fellowship Director and Department Chair each maintain an open door policy for discussion of any problems that may arise.
